Transforming MyCourses into a Digital Binder for focused learning and optimized action
MyCourses, RIT’s learning management system (powered by Brightspace by D2L), serves as the central digital platform for all academic tasks, from accessing critical content to submitting assignments and tracking progress.

Despite its essential role, MyCourses presents a fragmented, course-centric interface that leads to cognitive overload, time-consuming workflows, and anxiety around everyday academic tasks such as finding content, tracking deadlines, and submitting assignments.

Grounded in user research and competitive analysis, the project reframes the LMS as an action-focused system aligned with the student mental model—prioritizing clarity, task aggregation, and immediate visibility into what needs attention now.

The final design transforms MyCourses into an intuitive “Digital Binder,” using structured navigation, semantic color-coding, and action-based components to reduce friction, simplify submission, and create a stable, organized academic environment.
